Community Outreach
The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute engages in a broad range of activities that are central to its community outreach mission. Through the DFCI Community Benefits program, as well as through the Center for Community-Based Research; the United Way/Jimmy Fund Collaboration; the Center for AIDS Research; the Jimmy Fund Clinic; psychosocial services; and human resources; among others DFCI works in collaboration with its partners to promote greater public health.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's community outreach mission is to:
- establish quantifiable and sustainable programs in cancer and AIDS prevention, focusing on at-risk and underserved populations in Massachusetts;
- provide expertise in cancer care to city and state health departments, community-based agencies, and health care providers;
- increase accrual of minorities into clinical trials.
During the last year, Community Benefits has worked on (1) developing new, and expanding current cancer control initiatives in Boston in collaboration with Partners HealthCare System, its network of community health centers, and Boston Public Health Commission; (2) developing and implementing statewide cancer education and awareness programs in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH); and (3) supporting the minority outreach initiatives of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.
