Dana-Farber physician named President-Elect of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation

Joseph H. Antin, MD, chief of the Adult Oncology Stem Cell Transplant Service at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, has been named president-elect of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT). He will assume the presidency in 2003.

ASBMT is a professional association representing cellular therapy and blood and marrow transplantation clinicians and investigators as well as the patients they serve. The society publishes the monthly journal Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, promotes rapid dissemination of basic and clinical research related to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and supports clinical guidelines and standards of care for blood and marrow transplant patients.

Antin, who is also an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, earned his undergraduate degree from Williams College and his medical degree from Cornell University. He completed his postgraduate training in hematology and medical oncology at Dana-Farber and the Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). Prior to accepting his current position at Dana-Farber, Antin was the director of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Service at BWH. Antin is a founding member of ASBMT, a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, and past council president and board member of the National Marrow Donor Program.
