Patients taking Taxol may be eligible for refund

As the result of a recent antitrust settlement with the drug manufacturer, a $12.5 million fund has been established to pay cancer patients who were treated with Taxol or paclitaxel between Jan. 1, 1999, and Feb. 28, 2003, according to the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General. The deadline for filing claims is Feb. 29, 2004.

The attorney general's office estimates that eligible patients or their heirs may receive awards ranging from $400 to several thousand dollars.
