Staff Profiles

Deborah DiPrete, RN, staff nurse, Abraham D. Gosman Infusion Services, Dana 10

For the past four years, Deborah DiPrete, RN, has been a staff nurse in the Dana 10 infusion unit, working closely with patients and families while administering chemotherapy. "I love it here," says DiPrete. "The patients and my co-workers are wonderful. It can be very sad, but there are so many good stories that outweigh the hard times."

When patients begin chemotherapy, they are assigned a primary nurse who cares for them throughout their chemotherapy regimen. "Primary nursing works really well in this setting," notes DiPrete. "It allows us to develop a very close relationship with patients and family members. We get to know the ins and outs of their chemotherapy. This helps us anticipate any problems and makes it safer for the patient. And because patients have the same nurse every visit, they quickly begin to feel comfortable. They know their nurse understands their style and the things that make them anxious."
