Sharon Perryman, RN, diversity nurse executive fellow
Sharon Perryman, RN
In October of 2003, Sharon Perryman, RN, joined the Center for Cancer Care Education, Practice, and Quality as a diversity nurse executive fellow. Over the next two years, she will work with Nursing and Patient Care Services staff and others at DFCI to build on ongoing diversity initiatives and develop staff expertise in providing culturally competent care.
Perryman is particularly interested in working with staff to enhance the relationship between providers and their patients from diverse backgrounds. She notes, "One of my goals is to help nurses and other clinicians understand what they bring to their relationships with patients from diverse backgrounds and help them learn to build alliances. Rather than seeing differences as barriers, I'd like to help them learn to use differences as stepping stones to better relationships."
