Histiocytosis

Diagnosis

Some diagnostic tests your child may receive to check for the presence of abnormal and excessive immune cells include:

  • biopsy of affected tissue, such as bone, bone marrow, skin, lymph node and/or liver
  • blood samples, including blood counts, tests of liver and/or immune system function
  • urine analysis
  • X-rays of bones (also called "skeletal survey")
  • bone scan
  • imaging of head (CT and/or MRI scan)
  • genetic tests (if indicated)
