The Pediatric Patient and Family Advisory Council

Accomplishments

Since its formation in the spring of 1999, the Council is proud to have accomplished the following:

  • Revamped patient passage through the Emergency Room;
  • Changed the discharge process at Children's Hospital;
  • Presented end-of-treatment initiative to the Clinical Conference Committee;
  • Presented to the Visiting Committee on Patient and Family Care on the development and accomplishments of the Council;
  • Conducted the Teen Survey;
  • Published articles in Inside the Institute and Side by Side;
  • Published Council Introductory Letter in new patient handbook;
  • Met with key departments at Dana-Farber and Children's Hospital;
  • Videotaped interviews for Japanese public television;
  • Set up phone line for patients and families to access the Councils.
  • Design of the Resource Room at Children's Hospital;
  • Acquiring reference material for the Resource Room;
  • Promotion of nutrition services at the Jimmy Fund Clinic;
  • Promotion of complementary therapies at the Jimmy Fund Clinic;
  • Working on passage of the Pediatric Palliative Care Bill;
  • Consulting on the new phone system at the Jimmy Fund Clinic;
  • Working on the Wait, an initiative to cut patients' waiting times for appointments;
  • Developing an End-of-Treatment Transition Program;
  • Providing an on-site Council member at the Jimmy Fund Clinic to discuss the role of the Council and to bring issues from families to the Council;
  • Improved marketing to Patients and Families
