Fencing for Fitness
The Fencing for Fitness program is an innovative exercise and wellness program offered to enhance the lives of patients battling cancer.
Fencing is a complex sport consisting of foot work, lunges and escape moves that result in the development of physical coordination and the use of intermediate or "short-bout" energy systems.
Recent studies have shown that physical activity may improve the quality of life, mood, and physical well-being of cancer patients during and after treatment. The recent performances of world-class athletes who have been treated for cancer have put this issue into the international spotlight.
This program offers a comprehensive aerobic workout combined with group fencing classes. The program is provided in a supportive, non-competitive environment that encourages participation in a group setting while at the same time being tailored to each person's age, abilities, limitations, and illness.
