Integrative Nutrition Services
Offered in conjunction with the Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies
Cancer patients want to take an active role in their healthcare and are looking for assistance in navigating through the maze of nutrition information. Dana-Farber's registered dietitians have specialized training and experience in integrative nutrition, also referred to as complementary and alternative medicine or CAM.
Integrative nutrition differs from traditional dietetics practice in its holistic approach. Integrative nutrition counseling includes discussion and evaluation of unconventional diets and therapies, including how these practices may interface with medical/nutrition practice. Our nutritionists strive to create a forum for open dialogue in a nonjudgmental style to assist patients in making informed choices.
At an integrative nutrition counseling session, our nutritionists will review, research and discuss your questions or concerns related to vitamins, herbs and other supplements or special diets in the context of your current medical treatment plan and the most up-to-date research. We will address any potential safety concerns around taking specific supplements along with chemotherapy, radiation or other medications.
