Nutrition Tip

You may already know that berries are a good source of Vitamin C and fiber. You may also be aware that diets high in these substances have been associated with lower cancer risk. But did you know that berries are also rich in a phytonutrient called ellagic acid, which may help slow the growth of cancer cells? Laboratory studies have shown that these compounds may prevent cancers of the skin, bladder, lung, esophagus and breast.

You can put berries in smoothies, yogurt, pancakes, etc. — or make this easy, tasty fruit salsa. Serve it along with cinnamon tortilla chips. Cinnamon is an excellent source of manganese and a very good source of dietary fiber, calcium, iron, and disease-fighting antioxidants.
