Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies

About Us

Mission Statement

The Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies provides complementary therapies to patients and their families, offers education on complementary therapies to patients, families, and staff, and advances knowledge of the effectiveness and outcomes of these therapies through peer-reviewed, evidence-based clinical research.

The Zakim Center is dedicated to integrating the practice of complementary therapies into traditional cancer treatments and into the prevention of secondary tumors, and to make these therapies affordable and accessible to all.

About Lenny

After a courageous five-year battle with cancer, Leonard P. Zakim passed away on Dec. 2, 1999 at age 46. Co-chair of Dana-Farber's Complementary Therapies Task Force, Zakim was also a patient who found comfort and renewal by combining alternative therapies with treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.

Throughout his treatment for multiple myeloma (a rare and incurable form of cancer), he worked tirelessly to make these complementary therapies available to all cancer patients.

Zakim's legacy will be felt throughout the Boston area and beyond. Executive director of the New England Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League, Zakim was one of the most active and innovative Jewish civil rights leaders in the nation. He fought constantly to counter bigotry and unite diverse racial, religious, and ethnic groups.
