Women's lives up in smoke: Lorraine Steefel, RN, MSN, CTN

Pam Calarese, RN, MS, CS, (nurse practitioner in thoracic oncology) and Mary Cooley, RN, CS, PhD, (nurse scientist in the Phyllis F. Cantor Center) are featured in the cover story of Nursing Spectrum. The article focuses on the efforts of both Mary and Pam in research and preventive health to address the impact of smoking to women's health and provide effective, gender-specific smoking cessation programs. A discussion of Pam's community-based work with elementary school children to provide information and strategies to prevent the initiation of smoking in this vulnerable population is also included.
