Victoria L. Champion, DNS, RN, FAAN

Dr. Victoria Lee Champion is a Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean for Research at Indiana University School of Nursing. Her other appointments include Director of Cancer Control for the Indiana University cancer center, and Research Director for the Center for Excellence in Women's Health. Her national commitments have included chairing the behavioral study section for the American Cancer Society, and membership in the integration panel for the Department of Defense breast cancer project. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Great Lakes Division of the American Cancer Society. Dr. Champion has participated in numerous National Institutes of Health (NIH) ad hoc reviews and consensus panels. Dr. Champion also developed the Behavioral Oncology Cooperative Group, an organization of oncology researchers from five universities who conduct collaborative studies.

Dr. Champion is an accomplished scholar who has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work widely in local, regional, national, and international conferences. She has had a distinguished research career with consistent NIH funding since 1984. Her current research focus is on promoting behaviors for discovery of breast cancer at an early stage. Dr. Champion's recent funding includes an NIH grant to tailor her interventions to low income African-Americans. Additionally, Dr. Champion was awarded a grant from the American Cancer Society to study quality of life in younger breast cancer survivors.
