Office of Faculty Development

The Office of Faculty Development (OFD) supports and facilitates the career growth and development of the Dana-Farber faculty.

Specifically, the goals of the OFD are to:

  • Support the promotion, retention, and career development of all Dana-Farber faculty;
  • Enhance the representation of underrepresented groups, including women and underrepresented minority, among the faculty and faculty leadership;
  • Help ensure a supportive faculty work environment that enhances faculty productivity and satisfaction.

Under the direction of Glorian Sorensen, PhD, the OFD will provide resources and guidance to faculty in such areas as professional development, work environment, and work-life balance. This will be achieved through creating donor-sponsored faculty grants and award programs, a variety of seminars and programs on areas of interest to faculty, Web-based resources, and information dissemination. Additional services and programs will be developed based on faculty interest.

Measures of success will be the Office's ability to support the academic advancement, scientific productivity, career satisfaction, and quality of life of Dana-Farber faculty, regardless of gender, race/ethnicity, research interest, or stage of career development.

The formation of this office reflects the belief that Dana-Farber's faculty and the nature of the academic experience are essential to the Institute and our mission to improve the lives of cancer patients.

Gloria Spivak Faculty Support Fund

The Gloria Spivak Faculty Support Fund offers a multi-year grant program to provide support to faculty (male and female) who are the primary caregivers in their families and who are at critical junctures in their lives in balancing work and family demands. The grants available through the fund will provide an appropriate level of support to sustain research productivity and enable talented faculty to remain on track professionally during child-rearing years or a family crisis.
